Simply put: Amazing show. Well worth the roadtrip up to Vancouver, BC.

Shullhammer – Pretty good. Sounded retro thrash ala early days Metallica. I’ll have to find them online.

Tyrant’s Blood – Also pretty good. Deathy thrash or Thrashy death, however you want to cut it. Considered picking up something, but I had already spent too much on Rudra merch.

Striker- They fucking killed it. Again. These guys need to be headlining their own tours. Seriously. They covered Rainbow’s Kill the King and Maiden’s Wasted Years. During their cover of Wasted Years it definitely reinforced what a great community metal is, truly. The entire venue was singing along with fists in the air. Great energy all around.

Rudra – The only band to have the crowd chanting ‘one more song’ at the end of their set. Which they did much to the crowds pleasure. I know for some that was their first time seeing Rudra, for me it was my second, and well worth the 4 year wait since being graced with their presence at Heathen Crusade 2 in St. Paul, MN back in January 2007.

I couldn’t help but play fangirl a little. I bought two CDs and asked them to sign them, which they were more than happy to do. During which Shiva (drummer) turned to meĀ  and said ‘You were at Heathen Crusade, weren’t you? I remember you!’ and then Kathi (vocals) gives a big smile and says ‘We have a photo with you!’. Yeah, I turned all sorts of red. I even got another of my ‘I look horrid’ photos with the band.

Weapon – Very awesome. After shooting my three songs I wandered a bit, talked to the Rudra guys more, and then eventually ended up at the barrier headbanging my ass off. I will need to procure their musics in the very near future when I’m not nearly as broke.

For those of you that missed this show (or any other on this tour), I’m very sorry. You have my most heartfelt and sincere condolences. It was fucking awesome. Killer. Brutal. Whatever current ‘metal’ adjective we’re using to describe a mindblowing show this week, that was it.

When I woke up this morning I had everything I wished to say written in my head all ready to be put to the page. Though, it also caused me to think of a blog post by Wrath of Averse Sefira. It was the final tour entry from when they were touring with Rotting Christ, Belphegor and Immolation back in 2008, in particular the final paragraph. I’m not going to copy and paste the whole paragraph, but instead I’ll link the post for those that want to read it. I will say however, it sums up my feelings on the show and metal overall as a result of another amazing show with friends and killer bands.

It’s rare that a show can inspire these sorts of thoughts and overall feelings in me. Normally it’s ‘just a show’. But this one, this one was special.

So I leave you with a small summation, which was reiterated last night by Striker, a few words from our beloved Iron Maiden:

So understand
Don’t waste your time always searching for
those wasted years
Face up… make your stand
And realise you’re living in the golden years
